I found a great iTunesU series, last week. It is a University of Alabama Literature Course on Zombies in film and literature. The instructor, Sean Horde, discusses in seven interviews the merits of zombies in art and culture and why they have become such a force in the modern zeitgeist. One of my favorite conversations with him was about zombies in books. Sean talked about how zombies are the greatest movie creatures because they don’t think; they just do. He said that only recently have zombies broken into the literary world. Well, I have scoured the internet, and I have found some great zombie literary works.
The Walking Dead Compendium
is a great start to any zombie bookshelf. For all of us who
live in Atlanta, AMC’s “The Walking Dead” has been a great show to watch. We have seen zombies eat some of our friends and family who were lucky enough to be extras on the show. We have seen HWY 85 just as traffic jammed as in the first season. Well, The Walking Dead Compendium
is where it all began. This is the first 48 issues of “The Walking Dead” for your reading pleasure. 1088 pages of zombie attacks are here for your reading pleasures.

Some of us wish that we were more prepared for the impending zombie apocalypse. If only our parents would have started training us earlier, we would have our priorities straight. Well, my generation can begin the zombie propaganda early with That is Not Your Mommy Anymore – A Zombie Tale
. This is a tale that educates your children on when to love mommy and when to blow her brains out Zombieland style. It has great lines, such as:
“”When she’s shambling ‘cross the bedroom floor,
that’s not your Mommy anymore.
When her voice sounds just like Daddy’s snore,
that’s not your Mommy anymore.”
Your kids will love the tale, and if you do the zombie grunts and groans, they will love you, too (unless you’ve been bitten).
Finally, if you have enjoyed this post so far, you are probably the proud owner of “The Zombie Survival Guide
“.
It’s ok, I read it when it came out. But just like medical licenses and math classes, we all need to be tested every now and then, or else we will forget what we learned. That is why they created Z-SAT Zombie Survival Aptitude Test
. Test your knowledge of zombie survival tactics and see how long you could survive. This is the perfect book to get your boyfriend or girlfriend. This will see if they are really the perfect mate for you. Anybody can put the toilet seat back down and reload the toilet paper roll, but do they know what the softest part of the skull is? Find out before you make the big leap with the Z-SAT Zombie Survival Aptitude Test
.
So help your nerd start his zombie bookcase with these excellent literary works. Who knows? Maybe one of these gifts could save both of your lives, someday.
